About Hornet
Hornet is the world's leading queer tech company, providing a digital home for gay men to safely connect with each other — anytime, anywhere.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Global Web Payments Manager to own our web and alternative payments outside app stores end-to-end. Your goal will be to grow web payment revenue and gross margin, improve conversion, expand payment coverage globally, reduce fraud and chargebacks, and build a resilient payments ecosystem with less dependency on individual providers and platforms.
You will be the business owner and internal expert for web payments, working across Product, Engineering, Finance, Data, Marketing, Customer Support, Legal, and external payment partners.
Our platform serves a global LGBTQ+ audience across markets with very different payment behaviors, regulations, and provider risk appetites. You should understand that global payments require local solutions.
Within your first 6–12 months, success means increased web payment revenue and share of total revenue, improved gross margin, higher checkout conversion and payment success rates, lower chargeback and dispute rates, better PSP commercial terms, additional payment methods in priority markets, and clear ownership and reporting for web payments. Specific targets will be set based on current baselines and market potential.
What You'll Do
Payments strategy and growth
Own the global web payments strategy and roadmap, and increase the share of revenue generated outside app stores.
Improve payment conversion, authorization rates, gross margin, and customer experience.
Identify market-specific opportunities and reduce dependency on individual PSPs and platforms.
Providers, partnerships, and payment methods
Source, evaluate, onboard, and manage PSPs, acquirers, and other payment partners, including KYC/KYB and underwriting.
Lead commercial negotiations on fees, reserves, and settlement terms; monitor performance, renegotiate, and offboard where needed.
Identify and launch local payment methods — cards, local acquiring, bank payments, QR, wallets, vouchers, passcodes — backed by clear business cases.
Checkout and payment performance
Own the web payment journey from the payments and commercial perspective.
Analyze checkout drop-off, failed transactions, authorization rates, decline reasons, and recurring-payment failures.
Translate opportunities into implementation-ready requirements for Product and Engineering, then measure and optimize after launch.
Fraud, analytics, and operations
Own the strategy for reducing fraud, disputes, and chargebacks — balancing prevention with conversion and customer experience.
Own payment KPIs and reporting with Data & Analytics, and turn payment data into concrete initiatives.
Build clear operational processes, documentation, and escalation paths for web payments.
What We're Looking For
Required
Strong experience in digital payments, fintech, subscription services, or another payments-intensive digital business.
Several years of direct merchant-side responsibility for online payments, managing multiple PSPs, acquirers, or payment partners.
Experience sourcing, negotiating with, onboarding, and managing payment providers.
Experience launching payment methods across multiple countries or regions.
Strong understanding of authorization, recurring billing, refunds, settlement, fraud, disputes, and chargebacks.
Experience improving payment conversion and authorization performance.
Ability to translate payment requirements into clear specifications for Product and Engineering.
Strong commercial, analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Excellent written and spoken English, and a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
Nice to Have
Experience in dating, social platforms, streaming, gaming, creator platforms, subscription services, marketplaces, or other complex/high-risk digital businesses.
Knowledge of local payment methods, payment routing, 3D Secure, PCI DSS, PSD2/SCA, merchant underwriting, card-network rules, reconciliation, and payment-provider cost optimization.
Experience with providers such as Adyen, Stripe, Checkout.com, Braintree, Worldpay, Nuvei, dLocal, Rapyd, Airwallex, Paysafe, or similar platforms.
Why Hornet
Own a strategically important commercial function with direct visibility into revenue growth and international expansion.
Help shape products used by millions worldwide.
Work with a diverse, inclusive, and mission-driven global team.
Enjoy the flexibility of a fully remote workplace.
Make a meaningful impact on LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
