About Hornet
Hornet is the world's leading queer tech company, providing a digital home for gay men to safely connect with each other — anytime, anywhere.
With over 100 million users worldwide, Hornet empowers the LGBTQ+ community through products including the Hornet app, Hornet Live, and HornetX. Our diverse global team brings together different perspectives, experiences, and incredible talent to build products that truly serve our community.
About the Role
Hornet is looking for a Staff Accountant – AP/AR/GL to own our day-to-day accounting operations as we scale. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a full-cycle role covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger in Xero — you'll be the primary owner of our books, not just one piece of them.
As a true business partner, you'll work closely with Data Analytics, Product and Customer Support teams to support profitable revenue growth and you'll support all teams with spend management and controls.
What You'll Do
AR and Revenue Accounting
Book App store and Payment Processors (PSP) revenue including revenue deferral schedules
Invoice and ensure timely collection of advertising revenue
Own initial and ongoing KYC and relationship with PSP.
AP and Spend Management
Process vendor invoices, execute payment runs, and maintain vendor records and compliance
Administer Spend Management program, enforcing approval and providing monthly reporting to teams
Track vendor contracts/subscriptions for renewals and propose cost optimization
GL, Month-End Close, and Reporting/Budgeting
Own journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations for month-end/quarter-end close
Prepare monthly financial statements including budget-to-actual variance analysis
Assist with annual audit, tax filings, and compliance documentation
What We're Looking For
Required
3-5 years of full-cycle accounting experience (AP, AR, and GL/month-end close), ideally at a subscription-based or app-based consumer business
Solid technical accounting fundamentals both in US GAAP and IFRS (accounting graduate or qualified accountant)
Comfortable in a fast-paced, lean environment where prompt support is key
Takes strong ownership of their own workstreams rather than waiting for direction
Wants to help shape process and controls, not just execute existing ones
Nice to Have
Experience with Xero, spend management tools and vendor/contract tracking tools
Exposure to KYC/compliance processes with payment processors, or prior work in a regulated fintech/payments-adjacent environment
Why Hornet
Help shape products used by millions worldwide.
Work with a diverse, inclusive, and mission-driven global team.
Enjoy the flexibility of a fully remote workplace.
Make a meaningful impact on LGBTQ+ communities around the world.
Grow alongside talented colleagues who care deeply about what they build.
